QUALIFICATIONS:


I have been a Texas trial lawyer for over 27 years.  I have tried over 150 jury trials on both sides of criminal and civil dockets in many counties throughout Texas.  For the past 19 years, I have been in private practice in Harris County handling hundreds of civil lawsuits on behalf of defendants and plaintiffs in both a large defense firm and small plaintiffs' firms.   These lawsuits have resulted in settlements and verdicts ranging from $0 to $20 million.    I have been board certified in personal injury trial law since 1993 and I am AV rated.  After 27 years as a trial lawyer,  I have reached a point in my career when I am ready to take off my advocate's hat and use that experience as a public servant in a judicial capacity. 

 

What Kind Of Judge Will I Strive To Be?

 

I will strive to be impartial, prepared, efficient with lawyers' and jurors' time, and courteous to lawyers with matters in my court.  Verbal abuse and judicial pontification are seldom, if ever, appropriate.  A  judicial robe is not a license for arrogance.  Continuances are sometimes required to serve the interest of justice.  Lawyers should be given ample time to conduct a thorough voir dire as well as the opportunity to try their cases without undue judicial interference.  I will strongly discourage discovery disputes caused by obstructionist lawyering,  bickering among lawyers during depositions,  generic block objections to written discovery requests, or the refusal to properly respond to legitimate discovery requests.
